Have you ever heard of the term “Bypass, or no Bypass Brewing”? An Australian company has developed and released a device that reduces bypass (water escaping the brew processes) to improve the consistency and flavour of your coffee. By contrast, a method that intentionally introduces bypass, would be an Americano Style Espresso, when water is added to the completed Espresso to create a coffee that is larger by volume, but neither more acidic or bitter, where a longer extraction would create those qualities. Aeropress had perfected the idea of non bypass, whether that was intentional, or by accident, who knows?
