November 6th and 7th was Nelson Bay's "Tastes at the Bay" festival. the spectacular waterfront of d’Albora Marinas on the Nelson Bay foreshore played host to local fine food, restaurants and wineries from the Hunter Valley and Port Stephens. Now in its 10th year, I thought it would be nice to see the viewpoint of a visitor, that happened by the festival by chance, and was in for a nice surprise. Will you be at Tastes at the Bay in 2011? Bay Beans will!

A visitor’s impression of Tastes at the Bay
The weekend of 6 & 7 November was a surprise getaway to Port Stephens, more specifically Nelson Bay. We’ve been here on a few occasions and returned because there we always enjoyed our time and variety of things to do.
Saturday morning arrived with little let up from the rain of the last few days but we were here to enjoy ourselves and decided to kick the day off with breakfast at one of the restaurants at the Marina. We were surprised (and soaked) as we walked along the Dutchman’s (Duchies) Beach walk to find the whole area had been set up for some sort of festival and getting closer we were handed a leaflet declaring that it was 'Tastes of the Bay' a food and wine festival, which seemed perfect timing for our getaway, as these are two of my favourite things to enjoy with friends.
We arrived at around 9 am and stayed until after 2 pm, unplanned because the time just flew, helped along by live music, great atmosphere and delicious food and wine. The weather even played along and breakfast became lunch and then after a quite a few tastes of some excellent wines and listening to some great live jazz, we declared time to head back for a nap and relax in the peace & quiet, which is another of the joys of coming up here.
Found this one by accident but will make sure I visit again to enjoy this festival and I’d happily recommending it as a great way to spend a day.
